Riverside Park

Lowell, MA

Team: Lowell Browns AKA: River Street Grounds (1887-1888)
Opening Day: May 5, 1887 Capacity: 2,500

Memorable Moments:

This park was small. Left field was up against the river, and not too far from home plate. Eighty eight home runs were hit in 107 games during 1887. So many balls were splashing into the river, a wire fence was put up to prevent all of them getting lost. When the Lowell Browns were purchased by Peter H. Donohoe and D. F. Sullivan, they left Riverside Park saying that the dimensions put too much of a hardship on their pitchers.

Much of this information was gathered from an article written by Chaz Scoggins.
