Update: April 5, 2006: The Royals are now bound to Kauffman Stadium until 2038. A new tax was voted in by Jackson County. This tax will impose a 3/8 cent sales tax increase over 25 years. It will cost each household less than $2 a month. This should raise $425 million for the project. In addition the NFL Chiefs (who play next door at Arrowhead Stadium which will also be renovated with this money) is contributing $75 million, the Royals $25 million, and the State of Missouri which will provide $50 million in tax credits. The measure to add a rolling roof that could be used for both Arrowhead Stadium and Kauffman Stadium failed.
The Royals have announced plans for their renovations. The overall goal is to create an outfield entertainment area, add 2,500 new "fountain seats" above the bullpens, expand concourses, increase concessions, and open up the entrance. The entertainment area will have party decks, a kid’s area, Royals Hall of Fame, and a "Taste of KC" food court. All of this will be connected with the "Royals Walk of Fame" highlighting the history of the Royals. A new updated video board will also be installed. The video board will maintain the distinctive shape of the current board, but be full sized HD video.
